About Us

The Department of Agricultural and Bioresources Engineering started in July 25, 2012 (2012/2013 academic session) with a vision to become one of the best in the world in the near future. The philosophy of the department is to train students with broad based knowledge of various aspects of Agricultural and Bioresources Engineering, thereby producing practical-oriented graduates with skills that are needed in mechanized agriculture, produce and product storage, as well as primary and secondary processing of agricultural and bioresources products. Graduates of the programme are also to possess the requisite skills, for all such activities, that enhance the preservation and conservation of natural and environmental ecosystem.

Presently, the department emphasizes four major areas of Agricultural and Bioresources Engineering and these include:

  • Agro-resources Power and Machinery Engineering
  • Soil, Water and Aquacultural Engineering
  • Foodand Bioproduct Processing Engineering
  • Agro-resources Structures and Bio-environmental Engineering

The department will definitely make progress in teaching, research and extension in the afore-mentioned areas based on the quality and profile of the academic members of staff and the technologists.The 5-year programme is hosted by the Department of Agricultural and Bioresources Engineering in the Ikole Campus of Federal University Oye-Ekiti.

Brief History

The Department of Agricultural and Bio resources Engineering which admitted her first set of students during 2012/2013 academic session, is one of the seven departments of the faculty of Engineering locate at Ikole Ekiti Campus of Federal University Oye-Ekiti. The foundation was laid by the pioneer Head of Department and his team remains very strong with emphasis on application of engineering in agriculture, food and biological systems. Structurally, the department emphasizes four major areas of Agricultural and Bioresources Engineering for education, research, extension and community services. These are: (i) Agro-resources power and Machinery; (ii) Biopreocess and Food Engineering; (iii) Soil, Water and Aquacultural Engineering, and (iv) Agro-resources Structures and Bio-environmental Engineering. The objectives are to showcase the department as one of the best in the world in terms of quality of teaching, research, extension and entrepreneurship. The department has also commenced Post graduate programmes in Post graduate diplomas (PGD), MSc and PhD in all the four major areas of Agricultural and Bioresources Engineering.
